Inspired by Mix Brasil’s highly successful “Show do Gongo”, which each year fills Sao Paolo’s Memorial da America Latina, Zinegoak 2010 is organizing the first (and certainly not last) “Txistu Show”: an express filmmaking spectacle in which the audience votes live – through the use of a “txistu” (Basque for whistle) – for the film finalists which will then vie for the €600 prize + diploma.

On the morning of Saturday, January 30, kits will be distributed to participants – all of whom must sign up previously at: http://elshowdeltxistu.weebly.com (participant limit is 20 individuals or groups, and 5 substitutes) – at the headquarters of Hegoak (address: Calle Dos de Mayo, 7). Inside the kit will be an object that must appear in some form in the gay-, lesbian- or transsexual-themed short film. Teams have until 20:00 on Thursday, February 4 to submit their film – which must be no shorter than 1 minute and no longer than 4 minutes – at the Hegoak headquarters. All entries must be in DVD format.  


The Txistu Show will take place on Friday, February 5 at 22:30 in Bilborock, hosted by Yogurinha Borova. Along with their entrance ticket, each member of the audience will receive a txistu. Yogurinha will present the short films one by one. The first 30 seconds of each short will be observed in silence by all. From second 31, the audience may blow their txistus if they consider the film unworthy of passing to the finals. Only Yogurinha Borova may decide if there are enough txistus (at least 50%) to warrant disqualification. If disqualified, the film’s projection is halted and the next film is shown.


The non-disqualified shorts will be judged live by a jury of three well known Bilbao artists. Each juror will score the finalists from 1 to 10. The winner will be the film with the highest score.
